Q. What is the best time of year to hunt?
A. There really isn't any "best" time of year to hunt. All times of the year have benefits. Summertime lets you hunt over water with very good success, other times of the year mean pigs are more active, for ambush over trails, etc.
Q. How far in advance should I book my hunt?
A. Hogswild gets booked up pretty far in advance, so it is best to call 5-6 months before you plan to hunt. We do have cancellations, so spots may open up anytime. Call for availability.
Q. What rifle caliber should I use?
A. Any standard deer caliber will work just fine - 270, 30-06, 30-30, etc.
Q. Do I need a hunting license?
A. Yes, you need a California hunting license, and a wild pig tag.
Q. What is the difference between the cabins?
A. One of the cabins is a little more "luxorious" than the other, but they are both more than adequate - beds, showers, bathrooms, heat, swampcooler, etc.
Q. Are the hunts fully guided or semi guided?
A. The bowhunts are semi-guided, and the rifle hunts are fully guided. Bowhunters will be driven to areas if needed, help will be given for tracking, and general suggestions. Rifle hunters will enjoy a fully guided hunt. Gutting and skinning is not included
in the cost of your hunt. We can clean your animal for you, but there is an additional charge.
Q. What kind of shape should I be in?
A. The bowhunting area is very rugged and a fair amount of walking is necessary. You should be in good shape. For those that are not in the best of shape, there are easily accessible areas where you can hunt over trails, water, etc..
Q. Can I add an additional pig to my hunt?
A. You can add another pig to your hunt, but it must be done at the time of booking. For bowhunters, the cost is $100. Rifle hunters, the cost is an additional $350.
Q. How big are the pigs?
A. We have pigs of all sizes. Ranging from piglets to 400 pounders. The sizes change constantly, pigs grow up, pigs get shot, etc.
